Cocoa & Duke

Cocoa and Duke may be at opposite ends of life, but somewhere along the way, they decided they would be best buds.

Cocoa is a one-year-old happy, energetic wild child who is finally beginning to leave some of her puppy antics behind. She loves being outside, running and exploring in just about any kind of weather, and seems to approach life with a smile.

Duke, now 10, had a much more dramatic arrival at Revelation Gardens—he flew here! Volunteer pilots with Pilots N Paws transported him from Texas to Camden in a two-leg journey involving two pilots. As the plane came in for landing, Duke had his head poked out an open back-seat window, taking it all in.

Duke arrived about a month before Cocoa. When this very young pup joined him, he took her under his wing. He showed her how to use the dog door, helped teach her the rules of the house, and became a steady source of guidance and security. Their friendship grew from there.

Duke has some distinctive features caused by atrophy of a muscle in his skull. His right eye is recessed and he has an indentation near his temple. His veterinarian has confirmed that the eye itself is healthy, although its recessed position limits his vision on that side.

Cocoa, meanwhile, is still growing up. Her puppy curiosity has included chewing furniture and even electrical cords, creating a safety concern. For now, we’ve paused adoption plans while she matures and moves beyond this particularly creative phase of puppyhood.

Through all of it, Duke and Cocoa have each other. We honor the relationships our animals have formed, and theirs is one we believe is worth protecting.
